Based in Madison, PA, PTM has been delivering dependable construction services for over 30 years. In 1995, owner Don Maughan founded Precise Tank Modifications, Inc. Based on the family owned and operated small business model, Don created his company culture in values of hard work, attention to detail, and dedication to the client and project all at a reasonable cost.

Removal of USTs

Modification of USTs and Fuel Systems
When your fueling system needs upgrades or changes, our team provides safe and precise underground storage tank modifications. From adding or replacing piping, sumps, or components to upgrading leak detection and monitoring systems, we handle every modification with careful planning and expert execution. We work to ensure your tank system continues to operate efficiently, reliably, and in full compliance. Removal of USTs
During an UST removal, we typically take on much more than the tank removal itself. We disconnect all electrical wiring, purge product piping with nitrogen to empty out the lines, pump out existing fuel in tanks, demolish concrete pads and parking lots, remove and dispose of dispensers, dispenser islands, containment sumps, pumps, product piping, and vent piping. Then we get started on digging around the tanks to pull them out. Each tank is de-vapored and deemed inert, cut open, cleaned from the inside, and rendered unusable as a storage tank. We often take down and demo canopies during these jobs as well.

Installation of Underground Storage Tanks
When installing USTs, we often utilize shoring systems to safely install tanks. Our team is proficient in installing tanks, making sure there is always adequate fall and little to no deflection prior to and after backfilling. We strap down the tanks using specific manufacturing guidelines and ballast tanks with potable water to prevent floating. After tanks are set, PTM starts to work on the tank top plumbing, set islands, and run product pipe and vent lines.

Finishing Touches
After the underground work is completed, we grade the site and pour the tank pad concrete. We set the dispensers and pipe the product in, pump fuel into the new tanks, and assist in starting up the dispensers. In addition, our master electrician provides complete fuel system electric services. Attention to detail is our specialty, from the first measurement to the final walkthrough, we guarantee a reliable and precise installation every time. Our work proves itself in every job we do.
